<p><strong>The Inspiration for this Site</strong></p>
<p>As I mentioned above, my mom was able to successfully lose weight. This was mostly do to my research, learning and efforts to help her. We have had such a turnaround and improvement in her health that I wanted to share our story and try helping others lose weight as well. My profession is actually in computers, which is how I set up this site. I have learned a lot about weight loss, too, because of my mom.</p>
<p>My mom is truly great. She raised eight kids including myself, and that’s partly how she gained so much weight. She stayed home and took care of us kids while my dad worked long hours. She didn’t work anywhere or go outside much. To keep herself entertained she would just sit and watch t.v. while eating homemade ice cream. Sometimes she would get emotionally stressed from my dad, or maybe from us, and she would eat even more. Pretty soon she was well over 300 pounds, and she stayed that way for many years.</p>
<p>As I grew older throughout the years she would try different things to get the weight off. You name it, she tried it. I was always there supporting her and trying to help as best I could. I’ve always been a pretty intelligent person, getting good grades in school. I figured that I could solve any problem I set my mind to. I felt bad seeing my mom struggle to lose weight and have little or no success. I really wanted to see her succeed but it was not my top priority. I knew she would look and feel much better, but there were other things in life to take our attention away from the weight loss issue. That’s one of the reasons I feel that people have trouble losing weight. We get busy with other things that distract us. As a result the extra weight really never goes away.</p>
<p>Once I was grown and had moved out of the house I gave less thought to my mom’s weight problem. It was still an ongoing battle, but we didn’t talk about it very often at all. Things changed once my mom had reached her fifties and went for a regular medical checkup. We discovered that she had developed diabetes. That was a major wake up call. I didn’t know very much about the disease, so I started researching everything about it. I learned that there is no cure yet, and that the best thing to help is to lose weight. It was now a top priority to get the weight off. My mom was getting older and I knew that things would only get worse. Diabetes can continue progressing to a very bad stage and even be fatal. Her health was in danger. That is when I really started to focus my mind on the weight loss problem. <p>I had always remembered all the diets and programs that my mom tried. They were stuck somewhere in the back of my mind. I started to think through all of the things in the past that had produced some success. I noted the things that didn’t. <p>At first we were both really excited! My mom told me that it felt like she was escaping from being in jail for many years. She felt that soon she would have all the extra weight off. Although my mom loved my technique because she could eat without feeling hungry, but she later complained that it was hard to get used to eating in such a specific way. What I learned at that point is very important. I learned that there are many possible solutions to weight loss, and that even something that works must be able to fit into the person’s lifestyle long enough to get the weight off. Each person will be most successful using things that fit their own lifestyle, personality, and situation the best. I’m going to explain the techniques I came up with, and how I came up with them. You can read them and try them out yourself to see how successful you can be. I think that many people will be able to use the techniques, and advice as tools in different ways. It will depend on each individual how much success they can achieve, because not everyone will be the same. That’s why I think this site can be very useful. People can share and exchange tips and information about many things that can work and be helpful. I believe everyone will be able to achieve some high level of success because it’s just a matter of understanding the basic things needed for weight loss, and finding out what works best for you. My mom has since been able to get rid of a lot of extra weight, but it has happened more gradually. This fit into her life better, and the important thing is that the weight that has come off has dramatically improved her diabetic condition.</p>
<p>We have also noticed that her blood sugar levels are looking much better. She still has a diabetic range, but they are nothing that would be considered as doing significant damage. For example, it&#8217;s rare that her fasting blood sugar is over 200. Most of the time it&#8217;s under 150. I&#8217;m certain this is a direct result of the weight loss, and better eating. Our next focus is on bring down her blood pressure numbers, which are still currently too high.</p>

<p>It’s important to have goals. I wanted to include this section on goals because many people don’t realize just how much having goals helps. The reason having goals helps is because there are many things in life to distract us.<span id="more-22"></span> By having clear achievable goals we can keep focused and continue to work toward being where we want to be. Whether it is losing weight, saving money for something we want, or something else, goals give us a better shot at being successful. The reason is because goals allow us to remained focused over time.</p>
<p>Did you know that 80% of people don’t set goals? Often people will think of something they want to achieve, and even begin to work their way toward it. However, they fail to clearly outline the goal with specifics, including milestones along the way. This allows them to become easily distracted when something else in life takes their attention away, which is bound to happen.</p>
<p>It’s not only important to set goals, but you should also write them down. The best thing you can do is write and post your goal in a place where you will often see it. This makes it much harder to be distracted from your goal. Having a written goal is just a reminder to yourself that you are supposed to be working on the goal. If are able to see it then you will feel guilty if you are not doing the things that should be done for reaching the goal. Another thing you should do is find a picture that reminds you of your goal and put that with the written goal. For example, if your goal is to buy a new car then find a picture of the car you want and put that with your written goal where you can see it. If you are trying to lose weight, you might want to find pictures of great looking clothing you could wear at your target weight. By taking the time to set up these simple visual aids you give yourself a much better chance at staying focused for the time it takes to reach your goal.</p>
<p><strong>Milestones &#038; Motivation</strong></p>
<p>There is a great saying that goes, &#8220;Shoot for the moon, and even if you miss you will be among the stars.&#8221; I think this is a great way to look at things. It’s a very positive and encouraging thought. For goals that are hard to reach, often people will give up without giving it their best shot. <p>You can also gain motivation by seeking out stories of success. Try and find someone who has been successful against the odds. This was another program that had taken into account being diabetic, so I was happy about that. The best thing was that they prepared all the meals! It would cost money, but I thought it would be worth it. It turned out that my mom, who always wants food which tastes great, didn’t like the food so we cancelled the program. However, I do think that it would be able to produce good results as long as it is used consistently. This is another thing, like everything else, where results will probably vary depending on the person.</p>

I didn’t want to take any chances so I decided we would skip trying Medifast. It may work well for some people, but I would advise checking with your doctor first before use. 			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Walking is the best exercise for losing weight in my opinion. It can be done virtually anytime and anywhere. It’s aerobic, meaning that it’s good for the heart, and it can help to build and tone muscles which <a href='http://www.fat-burners.biz/'>burn fat better</a>. It can also be a relaxing mental break if you can walk in beautiful surroundings.<span id="more-18"></span> I also like it because it is probably the safest exercise you can do. My mom actually likes walking, but she would go down streets with a steep angle of decline. I didn’t like this because of the possible damage to knee joints from absorbing so much weight from taking downhill steps. I advised her to drive to any place with flat level ground and walk there. Walking uphill can be too tiring from pulling extra weight, and walking downhill could be hard on the knees, but level ground is just right.</p>

If you were ever into a playing a certain sport or doing an activity like bicycling, then this can be used to your advantage for weight loss. One of the biggest reasons people dont exercise is that they lose the motivation to do it consistently.<span id="more-8"></span> If you love to do a certain activity, then you should seriously consider doing it more often. What you want to have is a more active lifestlye rather than a more sedentary one.</p>
<p>You will need to be careful, however, when doing most sports and activities when overweight. The extra weight can put excess strain and stress on your limbs and joints. One of the sports I really love is basketball. I would often play it for hours without realizing how much time had passed. I came up with the idea to try and use the sport as a way to get my mom more active. Since she was overweight I looked for the easiest things about the sport which could be done safely. For example, I would have her simply dribble the ball while standing still. When she got good at that I would tell her to walk around the court while dribbling. After that we tried shooting some basic &#8220;free throw&#8221; shots. Eventually, we even played a very slow game against each other. I made sure to put knee braces on her for these activities because the extra weight could really punish the knees. However, if most extra weight has already been lost then a sport like basketball can be a fun way to get in some exercise without feeling like you are exercising, because you are focused on building a game skill.</p>
